Dorados needed one point to finish their Play-In series on Monday night at the Gimnasio Manuel Bernardo Aguirre in Chihuahua. They beat Gambusinos 88-87 and won the best-of-three series 2-0. Lobos did the same at the Gimnasio Miguel Hidalgo in Puebla, beating Freseros 75-63 for a 2-0 sweep.
The other two series are level. Abejas beat Santos 84-74 at the Domo de la Feria in León and Mineros beat Diablos Rojos 97-86 at the Gimnasio Marcelino González in Zacatecas, both a night after losing Game 1 at home. Both series go to a third game on Thursday, October 15.
How the Play-In works
The LNBP's Play-In takes the teams that finished fifth to 12th in the regular season and pairs them in four best-of-three series: fifth against 12th, sixth against 11th, seventh against 10th and eighth against ninth. The higher seed played Games 1 and 2 at home on Sunday and Monday. The four winners join the top four, Soles, Astros, Fuerza Regia and Panteras, in the zone semifinals.
The four series
Lobos (5th) 2, Freseros (12th) 0. Lobos won Game 1 105-86 on Sunday and Game 2 75-63 on Monday. Over the two games they outscored Freseros by 31 points. Lobos finished the regular season 18-10, nine games ahead of 9-19 Freseros. The sweep reversed the regular season, when Freseros won both meetings in Puebla, 82-71 and 90-86 on back-to-back nights in September.
Dorados (6th) 2, Gambusinos (11th) 0. Dorados won Game 1 by 15, 98-83, then held on by a single point in Game 2. Dorados were 17-11 in the regular season and Gambusinos 11-17, and Dorados had already beaten them twice in Chihuahua in August, 89-81 and 91-77.
Mineros (7th) 1, Diablos Rojos (10th) 1. Diablos Rojos took Game 1 in Zacatecas 98-92. Mineros answered with a 97-86 win in Game 2. Game 3 is in Mexico City at the Gimnasio Olímpico Juan de la Barrera. Mineros were 15-13 in the regular season, four games ahead of Diablos Rojos at 11-17. Their two regular-season games in Zacatecas were also split: Diablos Rojos won 77-67 and Mineros won 98-85 the next night.
Abejas (8th) 1, Santos (9th) 1. Santos won Game 1 in León 106-82, a 24-point road win. Abejas came back in Game 2 to win 84-74. Game 3 is at the Auditorio Miguel Barragán in San Luis Potosí. The two teams were a game apart in the regular season: Abejas 12-16, Santos 11-17. They split their two September games in León as well, Santos winning 87-86 and Abejas 92-78.
