Dallas plays 12 games in the last three weeks, New Orleans nine: use the schedule as a tiebreaker, not a reason to reach
I counted every team's games in each Monday-to-Sunday week of the 2026-27 schedule. Over March 22 to April 11, nine teams play 12 and New Orleans plays nine. In the week of March 29, the Pelicans play twice while 21 teams play four times.

The rule for this week's drafts: when two players sit close together on your board, take the one whose team plays more games in your fantasy playoffs. Do not move a player up a round for it. The schedule is a tiebreaker, and in a head-to-head league it is a good one.
Format: head-to-head categories, weekly matchups, and the same logic for head-to-head points. If your league caps games per week, the edge shrinks. In roto it does not apply, and I explain why below. Weeks: Monday to Sunday, with every game placed on its Eastern time date. Data: each team's 2026-27 regular-season schedule, all 30 teams, pulled on October 11.
What is on the schedule
The NBA has set dates and opponents for 80 of each team's 82 games. The other two games for every team will be played from Friday, December 4 to Thursday, December 10, and they depend on the results of NBA Cup group play. That is why the week of December 7 shows only 14 games on the schedule today. It will fill up. None of the unassigned games falls in March or April, so the counts below for the end of the season are final.
The season opens on Tuesday, October 20, and ends on Sunday, April 11, 2027, with all 30 teams playing. Counted my way, that is 25 Monday-to-Sunday weeks.
The last three weeks: March 22 to April 11
If your league's playoffs are the last three weeks of the season, these are the totals:
- 12 games (nine teams): Dallas, Chicago, Detroit, Golden State, the Clippers, Milwaukee, New York, Charlotte and Minnesota.
- 11 games (15 teams): Phoenix, Boston, Denver, Houston, Indiana, Brooklyn, Orlando, Sacramento, San Antonio, Toronto, Memphis, Miami, Oklahoma City, Utah and Washington.
- 10 games (five teams): Atlanta, Philadelphia, Portland, the Lakers and Cleveland.
- 9 games (one team): New Orleans.
The Pelicans' problem is one week. From March 29 to April 4 they play twice, on March 31 and April 3. In that same week, 21 teams play four times. A New Orleans player gives you half the games of a player on any of those 21 teams, in a week you may need to win to stay alive.
Cleveland has the same hole a week earlier. The Cavaliers play twice from March 22 to 28, then four times in each of the last two weeks.
If your playoffs end a week earlier: March 15 to April 4
Some leagues finish before the last week of the season. For March 15 to April 4, the spread is tighter:
- 12 games: Dallas and Phoenix.
- 11 games: 20 teams.
- 10 games: six teams, Minnesota among them.
- 9 games: New Orleans and Cleveland.
Minnesota is the team to watch here. The Timberwolves play only twice from March 15 to 21, then four times in each of the last three weeks. They are among the best playoff schedules in one format and below the middle in the other. Check your league's dates before you use any of this.
Dallas is the one team that plays four games in every one of the last four weeks, 16 games from March 15 to April 11.
How much three games are worth
Take a hypothetical player who scores 0.6 points and makes 0.07 threes per minute, and assume he plays 32 minutes a night. That is 19.2 points and about 2.2 threes a game.
- 12 games: 230 points and 27 threes.
- 9 games: 173 points and 20 threes.
That is 58 points and about seven threes across the three weeks, from games alone. The gap is the same 33% in every counting category: rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and threes all rise with games played.
Two cautions. First, turnovers count too, so more games means more turnovers in a nine-category league. Second, the percentages do not get better with more games. Field goal and free throw percentage are rates. More games only gives that player's rate more weight in your weekly total, for better or worse.
If my 32-minute guess is wrong, the gap moves with it. At 28 minutes the same player's three-game edge is about 50 points; at 36 minutes it is about 65. The edge is always a quarter of the 12-game total, because 12 games minus nine is three.
Why roto managers can ignore it
In roto, you are scored on season totals. Every team plays 82 games, so over a full season the schedule evens out. When the games fall does not change the total. Draft by value and move on.
What to do with it
- In the draft: when two players are within a few places of each other on your board, take the one with the better playoff schedule. Do not reach a full round. The playoffs are three weeks of 25, and you have to get there first.
- In New Orleans: a Pelican you love is still worth drafting. Just know that the week of March 29 is coming, and plan a streaming spot for it, a roster slot you fill with a different free agent each week.
- In March: the week of March 29 is the one to stream. Twenty-one of the 30 teams play four games that week, so your waiver wire will be full of four-game options.
- Check again in December. The two unassigned games do not change these counts, but trades and injuries change who plays the minutes. A good schedule is worth nothing to a player out of the rotation.
The check I would run next: back-to-backs inside the playoff weeks. Dallas, for one, plays on consecutive nights three times between March 21 and April 7. Whether a coach rests anyone on those nights is not on any schedule, and that is the part of this you will only learn in March.
Update: the first week has its own schedule edge. Philadelphia plays four games in the first week, Portland two.

Giannis and Bam shared 23 of Giannis' 32 preseason minutes. Take back half of the Bam discount
In September I priced Bam Adebayo a round late on a plan to stagger Miami's two bigs. In two preseason games they started together both times and played 22.7 minutes side by side. Move Adebayo up half a round, keep Antetokounmpo where he was, and watch the assists.

LaMelo Ball's assists made the trip to Minnesota, and his turnovers came with them, almost doubled
In 59 preseason minutes next to Anthony Edwards, Ball has 17 assists and 11 turnovers. Draft him off last season's rates at 30 minutes, about 7.6 assists and 3.0 turnovers, and build your nine-cat team so the turnovers do not cost you a category.

James Harden at 37: take him at his late third-round price, and draft him for points, not assists
Harden scored 24 in 26 minutes in his preseason debut. At an assumed 32 minutes that rate is 29.5 points a night and 2.5 assists. In 9-category head-to-head leagues, his late third-round cost already prices that in.
